M.S. Biology
The M.S. in Biology (thesis option) provides coursework and training for students intending to complete a research project or study that is substantial enough to merit the awarding of a thesis degree. The non-thesis option is primarily based on completing coursework and passing an “exit exam”. Students who choose the thesis option are usually preparing themselves for advanced graduate study at the Ph.D. level, a professional career with a governmental or non-governmental agency, or advanced training in technology-related fields. Students preferring to receive broad training across the field of biology without a formal research experience, such as secondary science teachers or those preparing for entrance to professional programs in the health sciences, often choose the non-thesis option, which requires the completion of both coursework and a one-semester research experience course. Both options offer tailored and comprehensive educational experiences in the broad field of Biology. Collectively, thesis projects in this program cover a wide variety of biological topics and questions.
Various faculty participate in this program. Prospective graduate students interested in the program should contact a relevant faculty member to inquire about their participation.
